HACG Hosts 2025 SERC-NAHRO Youth Leadership Conference

The Housing Authority of the City of Goldsboro (HACG) was honored to host the 2025 SERC-NAHRO Youth Leadership Conference, where over 100 youth from across the Southeast region came together for an unforgettable weekend of growth, challenge, and connection. Set at the beautiful Nantahala Outdoor Center in the Great Smoky Mountains, the experience was nothing short of transformational.

Throughout the weekend, youth participants took part in high-adventure activities like ziplining, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and wilderness survival training. Each experience was designed with purpose-helping young people build leadership skills, boost confidence, and learn the power of teamwork.

One of the most impactful moments came from motivational speaker Mack Murray Jr., who challenged attendees to embrace obstacles and believe in themselves. His message rang loud and clear, not only with the youth but also with the chaperones who supported them. As Debbie Neal, a chaperone from Mississippi, shared, "The experience was just as powerful for the adults. Watching the youth grow, connect, and overcome their fears was truly inspiring."

From line dancing under the stars to heartfelt conversations around the campfire, the weekend was filled with unforgettable memories and lasting bonds. It was more than just a retreat-it was an opportunity for young leaders to step into their potential and for HACG to continue investing in the future.

We extend our deepest thanks to our sponsors, partners, and all those who helped make this event possible. Hosting this year's conference was a privilege, and we're proud to have played a part in shaping the next generation of leaders.
